Payment

We request a 30% non-refundable deposit when booking a camping pitch. Receipt of the deposit secures your booking.

The remaining balance is due 30 days prior to arrival. If we do not receive your balance 30 days before your arrival, we will assume you have abandoned your holiday and booking, and we will release the dates for others to book. For short lead-time bookings – i.e. those booked less than 30 days before arrival – the full amount will be requested to secure the booking.

Cancellations by You

In the event of needing to cancel your booking we encourage you to consider asking us to transfer your booking to another date more convenient for you. We can, however, outside of 14 days of your arrival date, offer you a refund minus 20% of the total cost of the campsite booking.

Cancellations by Us

We reserve the right to cancel a camping holiday at short notice if we are unable to provide a safe camping environment, due to extreme weather conditions, ill health, fire, flooding or any other extenuating circumstances beyond our control. Under such circumstances, your full pitch payment will be returned to you. We cannot accept liability or responsibility for any loss, including consequential loss, caused by cancellation.

Special Coronavirus Condition

If, as a result of Government restrictions on campsites, we are forced to cancel your holiday, we will offer to book you another suitable date subject to availability, or make you a full refund for the price you paid for your pitch.

Cilrath Wood Camping is a Vehicle-Free Area

All the pitches are off-road with no vehicle access. Pitches are accessible on foot using mown footpaths and tracks. On the days you set up and break camp, we may often (but not always) be available to assist with moving your equipment to meadow pitches with our small farm trailer pulled by our vintage Land Rover or tractor. For the rest of the time, we provide a wheelbarrow for you to use. So it goes without saying that to camp at Cilrath Wood you MUST be physically mobile and KEEN to embrace an active outdoor lifestyle.

Pedal cycles and skateboards may not be used on the campsite.

Arrival & Departure Times

Arrival time is between 14:00 – 19:00. If you would like to arrive and pitch up earlier, please give us a ring and ask, as it may well be possible. Departures are required before 11:00. If you cannot avoid arriving later than 19:00, you must let us know in advance so that we can ensure someone is here to check you in.

Vehicles and Parking

There is a designated parking area with room for only one vehicle per pitch, approximately 600 yards away, leaving the remaining area of Cilrath Wood Camping a vehicle-free area. All the pitches are off-road with no vehicle access. Pitches are accessible on foot using mown footpaths and tracks. On the days you set up and break camp, we may often (but not always) be available to assist with moving your equipment to meadow pitches with our small farm trailer pulled by our vintage Land Rover or tractor. For the rest of the time, we provide a wheelbarrow for you to use.

We aim to maintain good ground conditions for access routes and pitches, but this is subject to the weather and the time of year. It is always a good idea to have some wellies with you.

If parking for an additional vehicle is essential, this must be booked in advance. There is an additional charge of £6 a day / £40 a week, and it may be required to be parked separately on another area a further walking distance away.

Pedal cycles and skateboards may not be used on the campsite.

Campfires and Firewood

We are pleased if you enjoy having a campfire, so we have provided raised fire bowls on each pitch. Apart from this, fires are only allowed in the designated campfire places in the communal areas and must not be repositioned or enlarged. Fires should not be left unattended, made excessively large, or lit in very dry and/or windy conditions. We may require that no fires are lit and existing fires are extinguished in such conditions.

A full sack of seasoned hardwood can be bought for £5. It is not permitted to remove wood from the woodland. Rubbish or plastic must not be burnt.

Metal grids are available for cooking over the fire bowls. Disposable BBQs are not permitted as they scorch the ground and generate unnecessary waste. We have BBQs on a stand available to hire (£10 for the duration of your stay, with a £10 refundable deposit). Charcoal is available to buy on site.

Woodland Pitches

Woodland pitches are small and best suited for a more wild-camp experience using lightweight equipment. A single tent approximately 4m x 4m and a small shelter work well on these irregular, wood-chipped pitches, which are slightly more secluded. Each pitch has a picnic table and a fire bowl with a cooking griddle. There is no vehicle access. Wheelbarrows are available to assist with transporting equipment.

Children

We are pleased if children explore and play around the designated campsite acreage, which includes old meadow, woodland, a conservation lake, and streams. However, this is a traditionally worked farmstead and sensitive conservation area, with hazards such as deep water, steep drops, barbed wire, farm animals, nettles, wild plants and fungi, and more. Guests must:

• Make their own risk assessments

• Supervise children and vulnerable persons at all times

• Ensure good behaviour and respect for the surroundings

Consideration for Others

Cilrath Wood Campsite is for those who want a peaceful, nature-based setting. Sound systems and radios must be kept at a volume not audible to others. After 11pm, only quiet talking is permitted. Acoustic instruments can be played before 11pm. Persistent disturbance will result in removal without refund. Please return quietly if arriving late from an evening out.

Dogs

Sorry, we do not allow dogs, regardless of behaviour, due to local wildlife and free-range livestock and poultry. Guide or assistance dogs are allowed but must be kept on a lead and with their owner at all times.

Soap and Detergents

Only biodegradable, natural products are allowed to avoid pollution. We provide soap, shampoo, and washing-up liquid. You may bring your own if they are 100% natural and biodegradable.

Recycling and Rubbish

Campers must separate rubbish and use our recycling area, which includes bins for glass, cans, plastic, paper, cardboard, batteries, gas canisters, and food waste. All items must be rinsed before recycling. General waste goes in the non-recyclable bin.

Chemical Toilet Disposal

We have no facility to dispose of chemical toilet waste on-site.

Smoking

If you smoke, please dispose of fully extinguished cigarettes in a bin. In open-air communal areas, smoking is only allowed downwind and with the permission of others nearby.

Wildlife

You may see or hear badgers, foxes, squirrels, and other wildlife. Keep food in sealed containers, rinse recyclables, and store them daily in the bins. Don’t leave scraps out and ensure your tent is zipped at night.

Mobile Phones

There is reasonable 3G reception across the site. Shared phone charging is available in The Shed, with basic secure docking provided. Items are left at the owner’s risk.

Property Loss

We are in an area with very low crime, but please take precautions. We cannot be responsible for lost or stolen items.

Bivouac/Wild Camp

We have spots ideal for a night under the stars. You may spend one night of your stay bivouacking with your own tarp/hammock/bivvy bag, but no fires or cooking are permitted. Do not disturb wildlife, and remove all traces afterward.
